Field Trips....

January was a great month for field trips!
Nay's school had an opportunity to sign up for a whale watching trip in Monterey. Since there were few tickets available, we hurried up and sent in our request to be in on that trip! Lucky us...we got to go! It was a beautiful day for it. Weather was nice...sunny and clear and very little wind. We got to see some gray whales. (See the tail below.)
And we go to see Rhees dolphins (six of them in this picture).
The other field trip for Nay was to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo State Park.
Look at all those elephant seals! We got pretty close to them (not more than 25 feet). But the close ones were lounging or taking naps. It was a pretty neat experience to be that close and to hear and see the farther elephant seals barking and vying for dominance.

E had a field trip, too --- a four day field trip without parent chaperones. It was their outdoor ed camp to learn about science. He had an opportunity to kiss a banana slug, but declined. Here's E getting on their comfy bus to camp.
Ry had a field trip, too. They got to go to a classroom at a local garden that was all about rocks and minerals. They got to do some hands on activities. Unfortunately, it rained that day so they couldn't picnic in the park as planned, so it was back to the school for lunch. That was the shortest field trip I had ever been on. We left a little after school began and returned by 11am. (Sorry, no pictures.)
